Kyoung’s Pacific Beat invites early scholars of color [PhD enrollment required, PhD in Theater or related fields preferred] to join our peacemaking, devising theater company as Researcher-in-Residence. With support of a $50,000 research planning grant from the Wallace Foundation, Kyoung’s Pacific Beat – a peacemaking theater company based in Brooklyn, NY – is collaborating with Mike Klein, EdD to research “Devising Peacemaking Theater: Advancing a Culture of Peace,” a participatory action research project that seeks to investigate peacemaking theater in America and the structural limitations for this theatrical work in the field.

Our company is offering a Researcher-in-Residence position between November 2023 – April 2024 to launch a national study on peacemaking devising theaters, integrating Peace Studies and Theater Studies. This position is part-time, hybrid, and preference will be given to applicants based in New York City. Compensation is $10,000.

Casting Opportunity

Kyoung’s Pacific Beat invites queer, trans, and BIPOC performers of color to join us for the development of OTHER NO MORE.

OTHER NO MORE is a docudrama based on NYC-based queer elders of color who lobbied the US Surgeon General to disaggregate Asian-Americans and Native Americans from the “Other” box in the US Census to address the healthcare needs of BIPOC LGBQT+ communities in NYC during the HIV/AIDS crisis.

OTHER NO MORE will be a verbatim play based on interviews conducted by KPB with prominent organizers including Collette Carter, John Chin, Verónica Flores, Gil Gerald, Curtis Harris-Davia, Kris Hayashi, Joo-Hyun Kang, Don Kao, Paul Kawata, Johnny Monzon-Santos, Cara Page and Suki Terada Ports. Compensation: $500 for Equity Staged Reading. 2 Days of Rehearsal and 1 Performance – 29 hours. Actors must be located in NYC.

Rehearsals: December 6-8th, 2023
Location: Ma-Yi Studios (260 W. 35th Street, NYC.)
Specific dates/times TBD based on actors’ availability.

Reading: Friday, December 8th, 6:30-8:30pm
Location: Great Room, ART/NY South Oxford Space (138 S. Oxford Street, Brooklyn).
